A set of resin diorama accessories in 1:24 scale from AK interactive. It contains self-service newspaper vending machines — coin-operated cabinets with glazed doors of the kind that stood in rows on American sidewalks. The individual castings can be placed side by side in the typical row at the curb, or spread around the scene. The line offers several different sets, so a group of machines can be put together more varied and less repetitive than if it were a single type. The third set of the line widens the choice with further forms of cabinets, so that even a more numerous group of machines looks naturally varied.
Self-service newspaper vending machines are a typical element of American sidewalks from the middle of the last century. After coins were dropped in, the glazed door opened and the reader took a copy. The machines stood in rows at stops, in front of stores and on street corners, each in the colors of its newspaper — and it is precisely that variety of colors that makes a group of them a striking and legible element of a scene. They suffered from use: chipped paint, dented sheet metal, dirty glass and the marks of stickers are standard on them.
First wash the resin castings with lukewarm water and dish soap — otherwise the remains of the mold release agent from the mold will not let the paint hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutter, and never break them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust does not belong in the lungs. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and ordinary glue for plastic does not work here. Apply a primer before painting, after which ordinary modeling acrylics are enough. The credibility comes only with the weathering: a dark wash in the recesses, light scuffs on the edges and dust pigment at the foot of the part.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
