A machine gun loader on the march, a figure in 1:35 scale from Dynamo-Models; the ninth and last number of the Normandy line of marching figures.
Responsibility details are not available.
The ninth figure of the numbered line completes the crew of the weapon with the man who, according to the name, looks after the ammunition. In an infantry scene it is a figure without which a section does not feel complete, and yet it is often forgotten when dioramas are built. The item is sold separately and Dynamo-Models lists it in 1:35 scale.
The loader walks beside the gunner, burdened with a load that visibly pulls one shoulder lower than the other. This asymmetry is characteristic of the figure and creates a pleasant rhythm in a group: a tall figure, a lower one, a tall one again. Number nine also closes a column, so it suits the end of a line at the edge of a piece, where the figure naturally finishes the composition and the viewer's eye does not wander off.
Let the load the figure carries be set apart in color from the uniform: a cooler shade of steel or olive beside the warmer khaki. Bring the straps out with a dark line where they cut into the cloth. Finally add dust from the knees down and small smudges on the forearms, which turn the loader into a man at the end of a long march.
