About product

Volkswagen Typ 230 with a wood gas generator 1:35 (CMK)

Resin kit for experienced modelers in 1:35 scale. It captures the German Volkswagen passenger car, popularly the Beetle, fitted with a wood gas generator — the emergency wood gas propulsion used in the Second World War when gasoline was short. Photo-etched parts are usually included in the set as well.

The real subject

Because of the wartime shortage of fuel, a number of civilian and military vehicles were converted to wood gas (Holzgas). The generator burned wood and the gas produced drove the engine. A car based on the prewar Volkswagen with such a device is a rewarding subject for dioramas of rear areas and occupied territories.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts free of the mold release agent first, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and clean the surfaces up; protect your airways when sanding. Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting. The model then weathers well with washes and pigments.

Who the model is for

  • Experienced modelers with experience of resin
  • Builders of dioramas of the Second World War
  • Anyone interested in unconventional wood gas vehicles
  • Collectors of civilian vehicles of the Germany of the day

Supplied as a resin kit, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
