A detail set in 1:35 scale that replaces the front end of the Willys MB light off-road vehicle from the Takom kit. The resin casting covers the radiator grille with its vertical slots and the adjoining front fenders, that is the part of the vehicle that is most in view on the model and on which the simplification of a plastic part shows first. This is not a kit of the vehicle but a replacement part for a part-built model.
The characteristic front end with its slotted grille and flat fenders is the most recognizable feature of the whole vehicle. In injected plastic the slots tend to be shallow and the edges of the fenders thick, because the shape has to come out of the mold. A resin casting does not have this limitation: the slots can be deeper and the sheet metal thinner, so after the swap the model looks correct for its scale even seen close up or in a photograph.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than snapping them, because the thin edges of the fenders are easily damaged. On the plastic part, carefully sand the surface where the casting will seat down to a flat plane and dry-fit until the gap disappears. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; fill small gaps with gap-filling cyanoacrylate or with putty. Apply primer before painting, which will at the same time reveal any scratches. The deep slots of the grille will stand out with a dark wash; pick out the edges of the fenders sparingly with a dry brush.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the part fits the kit you are building.
