This photo-etched brass set in 1:35 scale is meant for completing a plastic kit of the German multi-turret Neubaufahrzeug tank, specifically the vehicles of the short prototype batch. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory for the modeler: the photo-etched parts replace thick-walled plastic sheet and add detail that molding cannot create. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 05529 kit.
The Neubaufahrzeug was a German interwar attempt at a heavy tank with several turrets. Only a few examples came about in prototype form, series production never began and the machines served rather for training and display. In design it is a tall hull with a main turret and smaller auxiliary turrets, with pronounced flat surfaces, long fenders and a series of external clamps. For the modeler it is an unusual vehicle, interesting in shape, on which the edges of the sheet are particularly clearly visible.
On a vehicle with long flat surfaces the flatness of the photo-etched parts decides the result. So always check long parts on glass once they are cut from the fret and remove any ripple by pressing them between two flat hard surfaces; a piece of glass and a smooth steel plate will do. Cut a part out along the whole length of the connecting tabs at once rather than piece by piece, otherwise it will warp. When gluing, work from one end to the other and dispense the glue in small stretches, so that you have time to straighten the part. It helps to weight a long part down with something flat while it dries.
A photo-etched set is an accessory for modelers; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
