The package holds photo-etched parts, that is parts etched out of thin sheet metal, intended to improve a plastic model of the German Panther Ausf. A medium tank in 1:35 scale. It is neither a model nor a kit. The photo-etched parts replace plastic moldings everywhere the subject is made of thin sheet: the engine and radiator covers, the grilles, the fenders and their flanges, the side hangers, the loops, the clamps and the tool brackets. On the Panther there are a particularly large number of such items, and in plastic they tend to be thick, so the difference is clearly visible once the model is finished.
The Panther, that is the Panzerkampfwagen V, was a German medium tank of the Second World War with a markedly sloped front plate, a long gun with a high muzzle velocity and interleaved road wheels. The Ausf. A version was the second main production series and brought, among other things, a cast commander's cupola and a machine gun port in the front plate of the hull superstructure in place of the earlier simpler arrangement. Late production vehicles differ from the early ones in details of the exhausts, the stowage of tools, the form of the fenders and the side skirts. It is exactly in these places that the photo-etched set does the most good.
Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and fold them in a bender or between two razor blades. Glue them with the smallest possible amount of cyanoacrylate; on larger assemblies soldering helps. Degrease the metal before painting and brush on a metal primer. The running gear of the Panther is densely interleaved, so finish and paint it before you fit the fenders and the side skirts. Build the weathering up in layers: a wash in the engraving, drybrushing on the edges, dust and mud on the underside and on the tracks.
This is an accessory set for advanced modelers. It does not hold a model or a kit, and glue and paints are not included in the package.
