The Panther II was a German development project of 1943. It was to follow on from the Panther medium tank with heavier armor and greater commonality with the heavy tank then being prepared, so as to simplify production and the supply of spare parts. The work stayed at an early stage: only a hull was completed, and neither series production nor entry into service came about. For the modeler it is therefore a subject known from a prototype and from design documentation rather than from service.
The main reason to reach for photo-etched parts is the thickness of the material. Injection-molded plastic has a technological minimum of around half a millimeter, so the edges of covers, brackets and mesh look oversized in 1:35 scale. A brass sheet is a few tenths of a millimeter thick and, once painted, comes across as sheet metal at the right gauge. Cut the parts out with a scalpel or photo-etch scissors on a hard surface, and never break them out with your fingers, because the tab bends and a torn part will not straighten again. Degrease the surface before gluing and glue the brass with cyanoacrylate applied as a micro drop on the tip of a pin. Ordinary modeling cement for plastic will not hold thin metal.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which it does not include. The glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
