Responsibility details are not available.
This set of Star Decals concentrates on a single type of equipment and offers the markings of three armies for it. The ZSU-57-2 served in the Soviet Union and with the allied armies in Eastern Europe, and in each of them it had its own customs in marking vehicles.
The ZSU-57-2 is a self-propelled anti-aircraft system built on a lightened chassis derived from the T-54 series medium tank. In its large, open-topped turret it carries a pair of automatic 57 mm guns. Aiming was done optically, the vehicle had no radar, so its effectiveness against fast targets was limited and the crews often used it to fire at ground targets as well. The open turret is an advantage for a modeler: you can see into it, and the markings on the sides thus enter the overall composition of the model along with the interior.
The sides of the turret and the fenders are the most conspicuous areas for markings on this vehicle, and yet that is exactly where there is the most chipping and dust. Seat a decal onto a gloss base before weathering, then, and only afterward put on the chipped paint and the deposits on the running gear, so that the markings come across as part of the surface. Leave the open turret for the end, so that no softener gets into the interior.
