About product

Jagdpanzer IV L/70(A) Last (1:35, Border Model)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German tank destroyer Jagdpanzer IV/70(A) in the form of late (final) production, the so-called Last version, in 1:35 scale. It is the so-called interim solution of the Alkett company built on the chassis of the Panzer IV with a tall superstructure and a long 7.5 cm barrel. The box offers a well worked surface, a metal gun barrel, photo-etched parts and a range of field stowage (drums, crates, helmets), a rendered armored hull tub with three return rollers and the steel-rimmed front road wheels typical of late examples.

The real subject

The Jagdpanzer IV/70(A) came into being at the end of the Second World War as a cheaper alternative, quicker to produce, to the Panzer IV/70(V) tank destroyer from the Vomag company. It carried the 7.5 cm Pak 42 L/70 anti-tank gun with a high muzzle velocity, able to destroy Allied tanks at long range. The tall superstructure, however, loaded the vehicle onto the front axle, so it was prone to wear of the front road wheels, and for that reason late examples were given wheels with a steel rim.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the running gear, the wheels and the bottom of the hull tub before you close the hull. Line the metal gun barrel up with the plastic mask of the gun mantlet. The photo-etched fenders and covers are thin, so bend them over a metal ruler. An airbrush and the color modulation technique suit German late-war camouflage; you will create the final patina with dark washes in the recesses and with dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the lower areas.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of German armored equipment of the late phase of the war in 1:35 scale.
  • For modelers who will appreciate a metal gun barrel and photo-etched parts right in the box.
  • For lovers of tank destroyers and of the Panzer IV line.
  • For more advanced builders with experience of weathering running gear.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

The box contains a metal (turned) gun barrel, which has a nice muzzle profile and does not need the mold seam cleaned up as the plastic variant does.
