The set replaces no part of a kit; it only makes the painting fundamentally simpler: instead of drawing the gaps by hand, the pattern of the planks is created by two sprayings through a film. The cut matches the particular kit named with this product, so check before buying that this is the one you are building. The set is intended for the Tamiya 78015 kit.
With this type of accessory the most important decision is the one about color. The base tone should be lighter and rather cooler than the wood one imagines: in 1:350 scale every saturated shade looks a class darker than it really is. Choose the second tone over the mask only one shade darker, not in contrast; too great a difference creates a pattern that from a distance looks like striped wallpaper.
Do not forget that not all the deck areas are covered with wood. The steel stretches, the walkways around the turrets and the forward and after parts are painted differently, so set the boundaries in advance and mask them with tape if need be. A final matte clear coat over the whole deck will then help to unify the whole; it evens out the differences in sheen between the individual shades.
This is an accessory to a kit, not a model. The paints, the glue and the kit are not included in the package.
