1:350 French Light Cruiser Georges Leygues is a plastic kit of the French light cruiser of the La Galissonnière class from Trumpeter. The model has a full hull and the package lacks neither photo-etched parts nor a stand.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit presents the French light cruiser Georges Leygues from the period of the Second World War. Trumpeter has conceived it as a full-hull model with a richly broken-up superstructure; the hull is molded with slide molds, so that its sides carry detail without parting seams. The plastic sprues are accompanied by a fret of photo-etched parts and a base for display. The finished model is among the longer pieces that can be built in this scale.
The La Galissonnière class represented the interwar effort of the French Navy to build a fast and adequately protected light cruiser with its main armament in triple turrets. After 1943 Georges Leygues went through a refit in the United States that transformed her anti-aircraft armament and her electronics. In June 1944 she took part in the gunfire support of the Normandy landings and later in the operations in the south of France as well.
First lay out the order of the work: the decks are easier to paint before the small fittings are added to them. French naval grays differ noticeably from the American ones, so choose the shade according to the particular period, not according to habit from other fleets. Bend the photo-etched railings in a photo-etch bender or between two steel rulers, otherwise the sheet will ripple. Add the stretched rigging of thin thread to the masts and signal poles only at the very end.
The cruiser comes in the form of unassembled parts without a finish; buy the paints and glue separately.
