1:350 USS Midway CV-41 part 1 is a photo-etched set from Eduard for a large model of the American aircraft carrier USS Midway in 1:350 scale. It is the first part of a multi-part series of accessories for this ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
For large ship models Eduard releases detail sets split into several consecutive parts, because a single fret would not be enough for a ship of this size. This set is the first of them. It consists of photo-etched sheet metal that replaces the plastic parts wherever their thickness shows at first glance, that is on railings, grilles, ladders and similar thin-walled elements. The model of the aircraft carrier itself is not included.
USS Midway was the first ship of the class of the same name, a group of large aircraft carriers laid down during the Second World War that entered service only after it ended. In an active career of almost half a century she went through several fundamental rebuilds: she received an angled flight deck, steam catapults and a new island superstructure. She was deployed in Vietnam and in the Persian Gulf operations of the early 1990s. Today she serves as a museum.
Lay the parts out before bending and make the bends in a photo-etch bender, or between the jaws of flat pliers; a railing bent freehand will never straighten out again. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied in a minute amount with a piece of wire. Degrease the brass and give it a thin coat of primer, otherwise the finish chips off during handling. Fit the railings only on a painted and dry deck and work from the stern forward, so that you do not spoil the finished sections with your hands.
