1:350 USS Nimitz CVN-68 part 2 is a photo-etched set from Eduard for a model of the American aircraft carrier Nimitz in 1:350 scale. The metal parts replace flat plastic moldings; it is not a kit of the ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set of thin metal sheet for a model of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in 1:350 scale. It replaces parts that cannot be molded in plastic at a realistic thickness: gratings, platforms, brackets and other thin-walled elements. The set is one of a multi-part series designated as individual parts; this one is part 2. The individual parts follow on from one another, but they can also be bought separately according to how far you want to take the build. It is not a model of the ship, but an accessory for it.
USS Nimitz is the lead ship of the class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers of the same name and entered service in the mid-1970s. Her angled landing deck, catapults and extensive island superstructure present a modeler with an enormous number of details that are clearly visible in 1:350 scale. It is precisely the railings, the nets and the grating platforms that are the elements where a plastic kit runs into the physical limits of an injection mold.
Cut the parts off the fret on a hard surface and level the burr with a file. Make the bends in a photo-etch bender or between two blades, always in one movement. They are glued with super glue applied on the tip of a toothpick, or with a cement for clear parts, which gives more time to seat them. Degrease the metal parts first and spray them with primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on them. Work in sections and protect the finished stretches so that the fine gratings do not bend during further handling.
