The Hella plate lights set stands for the small lamps that illuminate the rear license plate on a car. Hella is one of the well-known suppliers of lighting equipment for European cars, so this kind of lamp appears on a large part of European production. The set replaces a suggested bump in the plastic with a separate part that has a housing shape of its own.
Plate lighting is a trifle, but on models in 1:24 scale it is one of the few items at the rear that are seen close up. Injection-molded plastic in these places is usually just an edge or a shapeless lump, while a separate part has a base, a housing and a direction the light points in. Once a plate appears below it as well, the rear stops looking like a model and starts to resemble a photograph of the car.
Before gluing, check from behind that both lamps sit at the same height, because asymmetry shows at once on the flat surface above the plate. Darken the area under the housing before you seat the part, as a brush will not reach there afterwards. A drop of clear varnish applied with the tip of a toothpick imitates the lens and forms a domed shape by itself. Leave the bracket in a metallic or dark tone to match the subject and add only a hint of shadow where it meets the body, so the part looks set into the panel.
