The MP4/6 raced in the 1991 season and holds a doubly special position in the history of Formula 1. It was powered by a Honda V12 and it is the last single-seater to take the title with an engine of that configuration. At the same time it was the last championship-winning car with a classic manually shifted gearbox, at a time when its rivals were moving to paddles behind the steering wheel. Ayrton Senna won the first four races of the year with it and took his third and last world title. From that season also comes his finish in Brazil, where he drove the last laps with a jammed gearbox and after crossing the line could not lift himself out of the cockpit. The team also took the constructors' cup away from the season and thereby continued the run of the previous years.
A V12 means more complex exhaust headers and a differently resolved tail than a modeler is used to from later years. Reference material focused on a single car makes these differences clear. It is useful at the cockpit as well, where manual shifting changes the whole arrangement of the space around the driver.
