Responsibility details are not available.
A Number Five paint from the automotive line whose shades carry the names of particular cars. Type 72E refers to the Lotus 72 in the E version, that is to the single-seater that, in the black and gold John Player Special finish, is among the most easily recognized formula cars of the 1970s. With this subject black is the main surface, on which the gold lines and numbers then rest.
The Lotus 72 brought a wedge shape, radiators moved from the nose to the flanks and torsion bars instead of coil springs, and the brakes disappeared inboard, closer to the axis of the car. The basic design lasted six seasons in use, which was an exception in the formula racing of the day, and the version with the letter E raced in the second half of that period. The car received the black finish with gold lines in 1972, and it has been associated with it ever since.
A black surface is ruthless to what lies beneath it. Every scratch from sanding and every unfilled panel line shows on it more strongly than under a light shade. Apply in thin coats and let them dry so the coats do not start to bleed into one another. Stir the contents beforehand and try the shade away from the model.
For builders of formula models and collectors of shades by particular cars, who want a black in a tone that matches the real subject rather than any universal black off the shelf.
Use in a well-ventilated room and store the package closed out of the reach of children.
