The red 308 GTB Red shade from Number Five comes from the paint of the Ferrari 308 GTB, a V8 coupe built from the middle of the 1970s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade belongs to the car that, in the eyes of most people today, defines the shape of a Ferrari of the 1970s and 1980s. The red of the seventies stands between the muted racing red of older machines and the cooler shades of modern supercars.
The Ferrari 308 GTB was presented in 1975 and replaced the previous six-cylinder line. Pininfarina designed the body, and the engine was a V8 of just under three liters mounted transversely behind the crew. A peculiarity of the first series was a fiberglass body, which sheet metal replaced after two years, and it is the fiberglass cars that collectors seek out most. Shortly after the coupe a variant with a removable roof panel joined it, and thanks to the television screen the car became one of the best-known silhouettes of the brand of all.
It is for builders of road-going Italian cars who want a red matching the period when Maranello moved to V8 engines. The later form of the car received fuel injection in place of carburetors, but the body stayed the same in shape, so the shade suits the whole production run. Neither the exact factory designation of the paint nor its place in the chart of the maker of the car is declared for the shade, so take the color as a faithful interpretation rather than as a documented factory sample.
