Northrop F-15A Reporter — a kit of the unarmed photo-reconnaissance aircraft derived from the P-61 Black Widow, 1:72 scale, a new tooling from 2024.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit of Ukrainian production from the Modelsvit group brings a completely new tooling from 2024. In the box there are 178 plastic parts, photo-etched accessories, masking film for the glazing and decals for three American machines.
The Reporter appeared shortly after the Second World War as an unarmed photo-reconnaissance variant of the P-61 Black Widow night fighter. The slender fuselage carries a two-man crew in tandem under a long bubble canopy and a nose full of cameras, and the power comes from a pair of Double Wasp radial engines. Only 36 production machines were built, and after the war they did an enormous amount of work on the photographic mapping of Japan and Korea; the images from their cameras came in useful right at the start of the conflict in Korea. In 1948 the type was redesignated RF-61C. Beware of confusing the names — this piston-engined beauty has nothing to do with the later jet Eagle.
A natural metal finish comes out best on a perfectly smooth base, so sand and polish the joints before you spray the metallic shades. The enclosed masks make the extensive glazing easier; finish the pair of engines with a fine dark wash between the cylinder fins.
This kit too arrives broken down on sprues — the assembly, the finish and the decals are already the modeler's work.
