This set from Omask serves to close the wheel bays during spraying. It is not an aircraft model and not an accessory to be built; these are shaped plugs that fill the open space of a bay and keep the paint where it belongs. The cut matches the Fairey Firefly Mk.I kit from Trumpeter in 1:48 scale.

The real subject

The Fairey Firefly was a British two-seat carrier machine of the Fleet Air Arm from the Second World War period. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon V12, combined the roles of fighter and reconnaissance aircraft, and its wing carried the characteristic Youngman flaps. It served over the Atlantic, off the Norwegian coast and in the Pacific, and after the war it enjoyed a long career in further roles.

How to use the plugs

• Close the bays before the base coat is sprayed.
• Seat the plug so that it lies flush with the surrounding wing skin.
• Once the paint has dried, take it out carefully and look the edges over.
• You then paint the inside of the bay separately and with no overspray.
• Finally check whether any small mark has been left anywhere.
