This set is a masking accessory, not a model. It contains no plastic aircraft parts — you must own the A-10C kit from Academy (or its release under the Hobby 2000 brand). The plugs are made of flexible foam and are shaped to fit into the landing gear bays of this specific kit.
The landing gear bay is a deep cavity that the modeler paints as one of the first steps. Once the outside of the fuselage is then sprayed, there is a risk that paint gets into the finished bay interior and ruins the work already done. Masking such an irregular cavity with tape and cotton wool is laborious and still does not seal it properly. You simply insert the plug into the bay, it fills and seals it, you spray the model, and once it dries you remove the plug. Because the foam is compressible, it seats even on an uneven edge and seals on its own — and with careful handling it can be reused. The plugs also protect the bay during sanding and from settled dust.
This set is designed for the kit from Academy / Hobby 2000. The plug is shaped exactly to this kit's bay, so it is not interchangeable with the set for the A-10C kit from GWH (Great Wall Hobby) — a separate version is offered for that one. Please check whose box you have at home before buying.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II, nicknamed the Warthog, is an American attack aircraft built for close support of ground forces. The design literally grew around its massive seven-barrel cannon, and it is famous for its ruggedness — an armored tub protects the pilot, and its systems are duplicated. The C version is modernized: a digital cockpit and the ability to carry precision munitions. It is worth noting for modelers that the A-10's landing gear retracts only partially — the wheels stay partly exposed in fairings. The bays are therefore prominent and clearly visible, which makes protecting them during spraying all the more worthwhile.
