An Artwox Model 1:400 wooden deck for a model of the battleship USS New Jersey BB-62. The extensive surfaces gain the texture of real covering.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Artwox Model is aimed at a model of the American battleship USS New Jersey. It does not replace the kit but completes it: once it is fitted, the extensive deck surfaces typical of the Iowa class ships stop looking like bare plastic. The reward is a model that stands up to a close look.
The New Jersey entered service in May 1943 and in the Pacific she covered the carrier forces. After the war came the campaign on the Korean peninsula, then deployment off the Vietnamese coast, where as the only American battleship she supported ground units with the fire of her main guns. In the 1980s she went through a modernization in which she was given guided missiles, and in the end she lies as a museum ship at Camden. She ranks among the most decorated vessels of the US Navy.
American decks are large and uniform, so it pays to choose an order from the center out to the edges and to keep lining the rows up. Mark the openings for the turrets and the superstructures before you start cutting. The shade of the wood on US Navy ships tends to be warmer, and an ocher filter will support it well. You will fine-tune the transitions to the gray hull with a thin wash.
