Photo-etched ship railings in 1:400 scale for models of US Navy vessels take the place of coarse plastic railings and refine the silhouette of the finished model.
Responsibility details are not available.
An aftermarket accessory for ship kits, not a model. Photo-etched strips of railings in a form which, according to the name, matches US Navy vessels. The set is universal; length is a matter of cutting them to the deck of the particular model.
Railings are a typical accessory fitted right at the end, and that is exactly why it pays to plan the build ahead. By the time they go on, the hull and superstructures have to be finished, varnished and weathered, because neither a brush nor an airbrush can sensibly reach between the stanchions any more and masking tape would tear the railings off. If you are adding further photo-etched parts to the model, such as ladders, platforms or fittings, fit them before the railings: handling around them is then freer. The anchor chain, ship's boats and aerials, on the other hand, can come afterwards, because they are glued where there are no railings.
Remove the original plastic railings and sand the area where they were. Measure the length of the strip with a paper strip run along the edge of the deck. Shape bends on curves gradually, not in one movement. Glue with minute drops of super glue transferred with a wooden stick at the foot of the stanchions. Paint the etching beforehand on the fret over a primer meant for metal, and after gluing only touch up the cuts. Carry the finished model by its base; a fingerprint flattens the railings and they are hard to straighten.
This is an accessory for a ship kit, not a kit on its own. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
