This plastic kit from the Japanese brand Bandai portrays the robot Great Mazinger as it looks in the film titled Mazinger Z Infinity. The scale is stated on the box.
Great Mazinger comes from the classic Japanese series of piloted robots created by Go Nagai, and in the story it steps in as the more powerful successor to the original machine. Its hallmarks are the striking head section with a horn and the robust chest armor. The 2017 film redrew the character into a more modern form: sharper shapes, more intricate paneling and an altogether more dynamic silhouette, which translates into plastic better than the older rounded design.
After removing the parts from the sprues, carefully level the sprue nubs, because on light surfaces they are otherwise easy to see. The sharp color divides typical of this subject come out when you separate the areas by masking rather than by working up to them with a brush. The engraved lines benefit from a darker accent that brings out the shape without your having to repaint anything. Finally unify the surface with an overcoat chosen according to whether you want the robot glossy as on screen or more earthy.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
