A replacement propeller for the resin kit of the British Gloster Gauntlet biplane. A single part, finished in roughly an hour.

The propeller for the Gloster Gauntlet is a replacement part for the resin kit of the British biplane that the Silver Wings brand offers in size 1:32. The Gauntlet served with the Royal Air Force in the second half of the 1930s and was the last British fighter with an open cockpit. It was powered by a radial Bristol Mercury and turned a two-blade wooden propeller whose shape is one of the few prominent features of the front end of the machine.
Here the extent is unambiguous: it is a single piece. Separate it from the casting block, clean up the face of the hub, try the seating, spray it and glue it on. With all the waiting for the paint to dry it is finished in an hour. That is precisely why it pays to have an add-on like this at hand before you start on the biplane itself, which by contrast is work for several weeks because of the struts, the bracing and the rigging wires between the wings. The ratio between the time put in and the result is the most favorable here of the whole build.
There are basically two reasons. Either the original propeller broke during the build, or the modeler is not happy with the shape of the blades and wants a sharper casting. In both cases it holds that painting a wooden propeller is a chapter of its own: a light ocher base, thin translucent layers of brown over it to suggest the grain of the wood, and a gloss varnish at the end. The hour put in shows on a finished model more than an hour spent anywhere else on the nose of the aircraft.
