The kit captures the VIS-23461, a commercial pickup derived from the off-road Lada 4x4. The model in 1:43 scale will please collectors who follow what can be made of an ordinary passenger car once a body builder takes it in hand. The silhouette with its extended cab and open bed is recognizable at a glance.
The VIS marque from Tolyatti builds commercial vehicles on Lada running units. The VIS-23461 model is based on the off-road Lada 4x4 and offers a cab with room for passengers behind the front seats as well, a 1.7 liter engine of 81 horsepower under the hood and a payload of around 600 kilograms. The design combines a semi-frame body with rear leaf springs, which gives the vehicle the load capacity it needs. The metal flatbed body has a drop tailgate, and a fixed body with a lifting rear door was also available. The result is a small working vehicle that copes with a made-up road and a field track alike.
Build the model in units: paint the chassis with the wheels, the body and the bed separately and glue them together only at the end. You will save yourself masking and get cleaner transitions. Check dry whether the cab and the bed sit on the frame without being forced, because on a pickup any asymmetry shows at once. For a working look, a more matte surface on the load floor suits well, along with fine scuffs on the edges of the sides and light dust where it sprays up from the wheels. If you place the model in a winter or muddy scene, bring out the tread of the tires with a darker color and leave it partly clogged.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
