The ZAZ-970B kit captures one of the prototypes of a family of small commercial vehicles tried out at Zaporozhye at the beginning of the 1960s. The model in 1:43 scale suits collectors who do not want only production vehicles in a cabinet but also the dead ends of development. Pieces like these are what make a collection interesting, because you will hardly come across them anywhere else.
At the beginning of the 1960s the Zaporozhye car plant set about developing a family of compact commercial vehicles. By 1962 a rear-wheel-drive version designated ZAZ-970 and an all-wheel-drive variant ZAZ-970-1 had been built. The family was to cover several body forms for carrying both goods and people. The vehicles drew on the running units of the Zaporozhets, which meant a small, light vehicle with the engine inside the body under a cover, around which the arrangement of the seats and the load area had to be worked out. For all its interesting solutions the family never saw series production and stayed in the form of working prototypes, known today mainly to enthusiasts of the history of Soviet motoring.
A small vehicle in 1:43 scale forgives less than a large truck, because every trace of glue shows on a smooth body. Glue in small drops, then, and remove any excess straight away. Wash the body before painting and let it dry thoroughly. A unifying primer coat will help reveal small ripples on the surfaces, which can be sanded out before the top shade goes on. Spray the paint in thin coats, and with a gloss finish let the last coat cure properly. Finish the window frames and the chrome trim with a fine brush; the model is small, and these details are exactly what decide the overall impression.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
