1:450 JMSDF DDH-181 Helicopter Destroyer Hyuga is a plastic kit of the Japanese helicopter carrier Hyuga in the small 1:450 scale from Hasegawa. A model with a full-length flight deck takes up very little room on a shelf.

A plastic kit of the helicopter destroyer Hyuga of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in 1:450 scale. The small scale makes it a rewarding model for collectors who want their modern ships together and do not have room for large pieces. The characteristic outline with a flight deck running the whole length and an island superstructure on the starboard side reads well even at this size.
Hyuga, with the hull designation DDH-181, is the lead ship of the class of the same name and entered service at the end of the first decade of this century. Her sister ship is Ise. Although in Japanese classification she is designated a helicopter destroyer, in layout she is a ship with a full-length deck that allows several helicopters to operate at once. She serves in antisubmarine work, in command of a task group and in response to natural disasters, where both her flight deck and her capacity for carrying materiel come into their own.
In 1:450 scale it is cleanness of work that decides: fill and sand the hull joints so that no visible line is left on the smooth side. Spray the deck and the hull with an airbrush and fine-tune the small superstructures and radars with a brush. The markings on the flight deck are sensitive to the accurate seating of the decals, so use a decal softener and work over a gloss base. The model is brought to life a great deal by photo-etched railings and masts, which in this scale are sold as separate accessories. Stand the finished ship on a stand or in a simple water surface made from modeling paste.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
