The Omask O-max masking set for the Ilyushin Il-2 in 1:48 scale makes painting the Soviet ground-attack aircraft easier. Intended for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masking stencils for building the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft. The manufacturer uses the O-max label for one of its ranges, which is numbered internally by aircraft type. The model is sold separately; what you are buying here is an aid for painting it. The target kit is the Tamiya one.
The Il-2 is among the most-produced aircraft in history. The front part of the airframe was formed by an armored shell, into which the Mikulin engine and the pilot's station were built, so the machine could take hits from light weapons. It was committed against ground targets with bombs, rockets and cannons, and the later two-seat rendition received a gunner seated back to back with the pilot. Losses were high, yet it became a symbol of the Soviet effort on the Eastern Front. Production ran in large numbers even in the period when the factories were being moved deeper inland.
First go through which parts belong where and plan the order of painting. Have tweezers and a toothpick ready; both come in useful when seating small shapes. Degrease the glazing, press the edges down on the larger areas and build the paint up in thin coats. A mask will not hold on a greasy surface, so leave the areas perfectly dry. As soon as the coat has started to set, take the covering off so that the edge is not torn away.
The accessory will not replace the model on its own, and the paints are obtained separately.
