An Art Scale masking set for the American version of the Curtiss fighter. It is not a kit but an aid for the painting phase: the stencils cover the places that are meant to stay free of paint and save hours of work with tape and a scalpel. The name labels it as double-sided.
The P-40B was an early production form of the machine that carried the factory designation Hawk 81 at the maker. It went into action in Hawaii in December 1941, when it was among the few aircraft that managed to take off at all. Its armament was divided between two heavy weapons above the engine and lighter machine guns in the wings; armor and self-sealing tanks were novelties at the time. Among modelers the type is popular mainly for its varied schemes, from shark mouths to winter camouflage.
The stencils need a smooth, dry ground, so mask only after the primer and its light sanding. Work in the warm; in a cold workshop the edges will not seat. After spraying, take the masks off while the paint is only just set, and even out the edge with a fine brush if needed. Anyone aiming at striking artwork on the nose will appreciate that a crisp transition survives even under the final coat of varnish and does not need correcting.
In the package you will find only masking material; neither plastic parts nor varnishing media belong with it.
