The base carries the motif of the flight deck of the American aircraft carrier USS Wasp, which under the hull designation CVS-18 served as an anti-submarine aircraft carrier. The period of the motif is bounded by the name as the years 1964 to 1970, and the rendition is set apart in the name as Type 1.
It is a board of acrylic 3 mm thick, 280 x 180 mm in size and weighing around 170 grams. In 1:72 scale this area corresponds to a section of deck roughly 20 x 13 meters in real size, so one model of an aircraft will stand on the base along with space around it. A board of this thickness is stiff enough not to bend under a finished model.
The base serves as a base for a finished model in a cabinet, on a club table and in photography. The model only needs standing on it loose; gluing it is not necessary, and if you want to secure it against shifting, reach for a removable adhesive pad. Acrylic is smooth and scratches easily, so clean it with a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid solvents and coarse cleaners; the surface dulls after them. Before standing the model on it, wipe the board free of dust, or small specks will print into the surface under the model. In photography a dark background helps, so that the surrounding space is not reflected in the glossy board.
It will be appreciated by modelers who build carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale and want to place a finished model into the setting it took off from. The base is offered as a standalone accessory; the model, the figures and a cabinet are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
