A masking set for the Douglas X-3 Stiletto in 1:72 scale. The name gives templates for the canopy of the cabin and for the wheel of the undercarriage. A model of the experimental aircraft is not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for a model of the American experimental aircraft from Kovozavody Prostejov. The name gives that it deals with the glazing of the cabin and the wheels of the undercarriage. It is not a kit; it is assumed that you already own the model.
The X-3 came about at the beginning of the 1950s as an attempt at a machine capable of sustained flight well above the speed of sound. It received an extremely long pointed nose, short trapezoidal wings and a slender fuselage, only the planned engines were not finished and the substitute powerplant had a fraction of the thrust needed. A single example was built, which got to supersonic speed only in a dive. All the same it was not in vain: the findings about the thin wing and about the unexpectedly violent reaction of the airframe about the longitudinal axis carried over into further designs.
The cabin of the X-3 is sunk into the upper surface of the nose and its frames pass smoothly into the skin, so the boundary is not apparent at first glance; here a preshaped template comes in most useful of all. Degrease the surface before the spray and after coloring give the edge a while to set. Spray the wheels separately away from the model; once the undercarriage is finished the access to them is poor.
The content is the masking material only; the model itself is not included in it.
