The A-10A is a single-seat ground-attack aircraft intended for close support of ground troops. Its landing gear is among the most striking features of the whole machine: the main legs retract forward into fairings under the wing and the wheels stay partly exposed even when retracted. The nose leg is offset to the side of the fuselage centerline to clear room for the gun. The aircraft stands low above the ground and on a standing model you see into the open bays from close up.
The set replaces the landing gear bays from the base kit. In injection-molded plastic they tend to be shallow and smooth inside; here they have their own walls and a three-dimensional relief of the inner structure. The original floor of the bay as a rule has to be cut out or sanded away so that the new assembly seats. Compare the extent of the work and the order of the steps with the manufacturer's instructions beforehand.
Cut the excess material off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Dry-fit the assembly and only then glue it. Paint the inside of the bay while it is freely accessible, because you will not reach into a finished assembly properly with a brush or an airbrush. Choose the shade according to references for the particular machine. Pick out the corners and recesses with a dark glaze and go over the edges and raised features with a dry brush.
The set is for modelers who are bothered by empty, shallow landing gear bays on a standing model, and for a build on a display stand or in a diorama where the model is seen from below as well. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
