Quinta Studio 1:48 A-10C, pre-colored interior, smaller variant

A set of pre-colored decals for the cockpit of the A-10C aircraft in 1:48 scale. The name designates it as the smaller variant, that is a narrower selection than the full version of the same item. Check the scope of both variants on the box and decide according to how much of the interior will be visible on the finished model.

What the set replaces in the cockpit

Kits usually handle the instrument panel and the side consoles only with engraving or with a flat print that has to be laboriously colored in and emphasized with dry brushing. Pre-colored decals take that work over: the instruments, the labels and the colored areas are printed in production, so the modeler gets by with a base coat in the cockpit and with fitting them. The result is legible even under a closed canopy, where painting tiny dials by hand would be disproportionately demanding.

How to proceed

First paint the cockpit in the base shade, let the paint mature and go over it with gloss varnish: without it, air will be trapped under the decal and a white veil will appear. Release the decals in lukewarm water after about fifteen seconds and transfer them one element at a time, adjust the position with a damp brush and blot up the excess water from the side. Do not use a decal softener or setter; their chemistry will attack the printed resin and spoil the element. At the end blend the whole interior with a flat or semi-flat clear coat.
