A resin replacement for the exhausts for models of the Douglas A-26 Invader in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an airplane but a detail accessory for a model under construction. Together with propellers and landing gear, exhausts are among the most frequently improved assemblies, because their appearance has a marked effect on how the model looks from close up.
The main added value is the hollow mouth. An injection mold as a rule cannot make an opening with any depth, so a plastic exhaust ends in a flat wall that has to be laboriously drilled out, and with a part that has a seam there is the additional risk of the mouth running out into an oval. A resin casting offers a clean circular outline and smooth outer walls. The exhausts are moreover the place where the greatest part of the color effects on the model happens, so a good basis pays off. The number of pieces and the rest of the contents of the package are stated on the box.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Cut the casting block off with a saw at a place that will be covered by the cowling once the part is fitted. Before gluing, try the parts dry and check that they protrude from the wall of the nacelle by the same amount on both sides; asymmetry is immediately visible from behind. They are glued with super glue. In color a dark base in a burnt steel shade proves itself, with light coats of rusty brown over it and finally a dry pigment or a very thin wash to imitate the scorched coating. Apply the smoky dirtying of the skin behind the exhausts with an airbrush in heavily thinned coats and always in the direction of the airflow.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
