A Print Scale decal sheet in 1:48 scale devoted to the Japanese carrier fighter Mitsubishi A6M, known as the Zero-sen. The series is split into two parts; this is the first of them, and the second is available separately. It is not a kit but decals that go on a model which is already built and painted. Check the particular machines and markings against the illustration of the sheet.
The Mitsubishi A6M was a single-seat carrier fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy, powered by a Nakajima Sakae radial engine. The designers staked everything on low weight, so the aircraft gained a long range and, in the early years of the war, excellent maneuverability; it paid for that with a structure that took little damage. The type went through a number of versions that differed in their wing, their armament and their engine power, and it served both from carriers and from land bases. Given the long production run, it is worth checking which version the chosen markings assume.
Decals belong on a glossy base; on a matte surface a white bloom appears under them. Cut the artwork out with a margin, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to release from the backing paper. Slide it into place, fine-tune the position with a soft brush and blot the excess water away. On broken surfaces a decal softener helps, and once everything is dry give the model a matte or semi-gloss clear coat that blends the decals into the surface.
