1:1000 T-S 70 ,,U kříže,,

T-S 70, code-named U krize, in 1:1000 scale (ROP o.s.)

A model of one particular structure of the border fortifications in 1:1000 scale, listed under the serial number 70 of its construction section and the code name U krize, meaning by the cross. The format is small and intended to be set into terrain or into a display case with a collection of other works of the same series. The material, the production technology, the number of parts and the contents of the package are stated on the box.

The real subject

The subject is an infantry casemate, that is a reinforced concrete work of the heavy fortifications. Structurally it is a compact block with a markedly thickened front wall, the fighting rooms turned to the side and a rear with the entrance. The work was designed to merge with the terrain and to stand out above the surrounding level as little as possible.

Building and painting tips

On a small model it is the surface finish that decides the impression. Do not make the concrete new and clean: bring the base gray alive with light patches half a tone lighter and darker, so that the surface does not look like plastic. Apply a dark wash into the corners and at the foot and let it dry, wiping the excess away with a cotton bud. Treat vegetation sparingly; in this scale a fine static grass or ground foam colored in two shades is enough, as too coarse a material breaks the scale at once. If you display the model on its own in a display case, seat it on a small terrain plinth that suggests the slope of the ground.

Who the model is for

• Collectors putting together a complete series of fortification works.
• Modelers practicing work with terrain and with the surface finish of concrete.
• Builders of display plinths and small scenes.
• Anyone interested in the structural form of reinforced concrete works in a small scale.

The model is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue, terrain compounds and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
