Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21 in 1:48 scale. Unlike ordinary masks for glazing, this set is aimed at the national insignia. The markings are therefore not applied as a decal but sprayed through a mask directly onto the surface of the model.
A decal is always a thin layer lying on the surface. Under a sharp light it is often recognized by the shiny edge of the carrier film, and on an uneven surface it tends to silver. A sprayed marking has no film, it merges with the surrounding paint and then behaves like the rest of the coat, including any subsequent flattening and weathering. On a model that is meant to look like a worn machine that is a noticeable difference.
The surface under a marking has to be smooth and well dried, otherwise the paint will creep underneath. It pays to spray in several passes and lightly, because a circular shape has a long edge and it is the edge that suffers most from overspray. A covering white or light coat comes before the final shade, otherwise a saturated color over a dark surface will go gray. Check the position of the markings in advance against the building instructions; on smooth paint a badly placed mask can still be moved carefully, on a flat surface no longer. Remove the mask once the paint has set, not after it has fully cured.
These are masking sheets for painting, not a sheet of decals. Paints are not included in the package.
