This is a 3D-printed resin detail accessory from the Czech brand Eduard for models of the Japanese A6M2-N Rufe floatplane fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft and not a substitute for one: the set replaces the gun bays, which in injection-molded plastic are usually only suggested, and makes it possible to build them open. The base model is bought separately.
The A6M2-N, known to the Allies under the code name Rufe, was the floatplane variant of the A6M2 carrier fighter. Nakajima created it by replacing the retractable landing gear with a central float and a pair of auxiliary floats under the wings. It served from 1942 in remote areas of the Pacific where no prepared runways were available. The armament consisted of two 20 mm wing cannons and two machine guns in the forward fuselage.
The 3D-printed parts are cut from the print supports with a sharp scalpel or a fine-toothed saw, and the mark left by the support is then leveled with a fine file. Before painting it is worth washing the parts in lukewarm soapy water and letting them dry thoroughly. Bonding is done with super glue, as ordinary plastic cement does not dissolve resin and will not hold. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It pays to spray, shade and run a dark wash into the open gun bays before the structure is closed up; once dry, a dry brush over the edges helps.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
