It deals with a single assembly, the glazing of the pilot's compartment; the aircraft itself is a matter for another item. The shape matches the open position, so the slid-back middle section stays on the spine at the rear and the inside of the cockpit will be exposed.
The Japanese Zero naval fighter became a symbol of the first months of the fighting over the Pacific, when its range made it possible to escort strikes far from the mother ships. In the course of time the opponent's equipment caught up with it. The new American types staked everything on the output of the powerplant, on toughness and on fighting in the vertical plane, where the light Japanese structure lost out. The forms designated A6M2b, A6M3 and A6M5 capture the change from the early machines with a long wing to the later form with a revised lifting surface and individual exhausts.
Modelers who want to show the pilot's compartment, and for dioramas with a figure of a pilot by the machine. It will be used in photographing a model close up as well. An open cockpit moreover changes the silhouette of the model markedly in a view from the side and draws the eye to the inside.
