A sheet of templates for spraying the national insignia on the Japanese A6M5 Model 52 fighter from Nakajima production. Scale 1:48, and according to the name for Eduard kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
Japanese national insignia take the form of a plain red disc, on some machines outlined with a white border. It sounds like an easy job, and yet a perfectly round shape is among the hardest things to put on a model. A decal often wrinkles on a riveted surface or leaves a glossy film underneath, and a circle cut out by hand tends to look noticeably egg-shaped when seen from the side. Spraying through a precise template sidesteps that problem and the marking becomes part of the paint.
The Reisen was designed by Mitsubishi, but license production was soon taken up by Nakajima as well, and in the end more of these fighters left its halls than those of the original designer. Machines from the two makers differed in small details of workshop finish and in the placing and the size of the insignia, and it is the Nakajima-built examples that this set is cut for.
The Model 52 is a rewarding subject among collectors also because many photographs with clearly legible markings have survived of it. Anyone building several machines side by side will appreciate that spraying gives the marking exactly the same shape on every model.
Only the masking sheet for 1:48 scale is included. The paints and the kit are bought separately.
