The real subject

The Penguin is an anti-ship guided missile of Norwegian origin, carried in American designation as the AGM-119. It was created for fighting in the narrow waters among islands and fjords, where the target appears close by and there is no time for a long preparation, which is why it belongs among short- and medium-range missiles. The seeker head works passively on an infrared principle: the missile itself emits nothing, so the ship under attack learns of the attack late. It flies to the target just above the surface in order to stay below the radar horizon as long as possible. It is carried by surface ships, coastal launchers, helicopters and fighter aircraft.

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand the remainder down so that the sharp edges of the fins and a clean nose are preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, and choose the glue according to their material. Paint the missile separately and hang it on a finished model, as you will then reach the underside of the fuselage and the wing more easily. The color markings differed by operator and by whether it was a live or a training round, so check them in the references for the machine you are building.
