Dead Design 1:48 AH-1Q/S Cobra are glazing masks for the cabin of the anti-tank version of the Cobra. They leave only the frames uncovered and the clear areas stay without paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for spraying the frames of the cabin of the attack helicopter Bell AH-1Q/S Cobra in 1:48 scale. It is sold as an aid for painting and a model is not part of it.
The AH-1Q arose by adapting the AH-1G for the use of TOW anti-tank guided missiles and received sighting equipment in the forward part of the fuselage for that. The AH-1S was the following stage of modernization with a more powerful powerplant and further modifications of the airframe and the equipment. Both versions kept the typical narrow silhouette with the crew in tandem and stub wings for external stores - from a modeler's point of view that means the cabin stays the dominant glazed area of the whole machine and is visible from all sides, including the view from below.
The frames of the glazing of the Cobra break at various angles and some of them run into curved areas. Cutting tape by hand in such a geometry means a lot of short pieces that overlap, and in the overlap a step arises. A pre-cut mask is one piece for one area: it is laid down, pressed home and done. Then apply the paint in thin coats and take the masks off while the sprayed coat is fresh. If you glue the cabin onto the fuselage only after painting, leave the films in place as long as possible, so that you do not soil the glass with adhesive.
