A photo-etched set in thin sheet metal for a model of the Antonov An-2 transport and multi-purpose biplane in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a set of accessories for a model already under way. Photo-etched parts are an order of magnitude thinner than injection-molded plastic, so they replace exactly those places where a plastic part looks unnaturally heavy.
The An-2 is a single-engine biplane with a radial engine, designed as a universal machine for short strips and unprepared surfaces. The combination of a large wing with auxiliary high-lift devices and a powerful engine gives it a very low takeoff and landing speed. It was used in agriculture, in transport, in parachute training and as a liaison aircraft, and it was built in enormous numbers over several decades.
Cut the parts off the fret with a scalpel on a hard surface; do not break them out, as the sheet will bend. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades and pull the sharp edge home with the pressure of a flat tool. They are bonded with super glue applied in drops from a toothpick; on larger areas a slower epoxy helps, as it gives you time to set the part. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth sheet and will flake off during handling. Fit the set as you go rather than into a finished model, as most of the parts belong inside.
This is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
