A coarser grade of the grid, 1.7 mm. For the heaviest visible joints on a machine, such as wheel axles and suspension pivots.
Responsibility details are not available.
Every machine has a few places where the joint is plainly large and where the designer does not even hide it. On a two-wheeler that means the rear wheel axle, the pivot of the swinging suspension and the mounting of the engine to the beam. On a commercial vehicle spring shackles and the mounting of the towing gear are added. It is precisely these points that this grade suits.
There is a compositional reason for it too. When a whole model is fitted with heads of one size, the eye slides over it without stopping. A few plainly larger pieces, by contrast, work as an anchor: the eye lingers at them, reads the shape and only then notices the smaller places around. Without this hierarchy even a carefully worked scale model gives a flat impression.
How many there should be: as a rule the largest heads will be the fewest on a model. A ratio of roughly one to five against the middle size matches the way real machinery looks and protects against the machine looking overloaded.
When seating the coarsest pieces, take care that they seat square. At small diameters the eye does not notice a tilt; here it does, because the shadow under one side of the head will be noticeably wider than under the other. It helps to press it home with a flat tool rather than with the tip of the tweezers.
