Glazing masks from the outside and the inside plus two sets of national insignia for the Arado Ar 196 floatplane in 1:48 scale. Italeri is the kit the cut is made for.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Arado Ar 196 was launched by catapult from the decks of battleships and cruisers, watched the horizon and landed back on the waves beside its mother ship. The pair of large floats under the fuselage gave it an unmistakable silhouette, and the cannon in the wing enough power to attack even a submarine on the surface. In the Mediterranean and over the Bay of Biscay it also flew from coastal bases as a patrol machine.
The decision on this aircraft is not mask against tape but when to mask. A model with floats is hard to hold, because taking hold anywhere on the struts between the fuselage and the float means a risk. It therefore pays to mask and spray the glazing before the float assembly is attached. The two-seat tandem cockpit also has a long canopy with a sliding rear section and frames that are harder to reach once it is built up.
The film covers the clear parts from outside and inside, and next to them you will find a pair of sheets with national markings to spray. The crosses on a floatplane sit on surfaces that get turned a good deal during the build; sprayed paint takes handling better than a freshly placed decal, which can be shifted while it is still setting.
Even a less experienced builder will manage it if the order is kept. A simple model holder is a useful addition, so that finished surfaces do not have to be touched during spraying, and thin tape for filling in the transition between the fuselage and the struts.
