A sheet of wet decals in 1:48 scale capturing one of the specially painted machines of the Austrian fighter unit from the 2023 tiger gathering.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Austrian Air Force introduced the Eurofighter Typhoon between 2007 and 2009 and concentrated it in a single combat unit that provides air defense for the country. The home base is Fliegerhorst Hinterstoisser near Zeltweg in Styria, so the machines work over exceptionally broken Alpine terrain with short reaction times. The Austrian examples come from an early production tranche and therefore have more modest equipment than the later European batches, but the occasional special finishes that appear on them are all the more striking.
The print captures the coloring connected with the tiger gathering of 2023. At these events the motif is traditionally stretched across the whole fuselage and the vertical tail, and it is accompanied by national insignia, serial numbers and the small technical lettering for the entire airframe.
The elements are released with water and laid onto a finished, previously varnished surface. They settle best on a gloss base, so leave the matte varnish until the very end, so that the edges of the carrier film disappear beneath it. With large pieces a decal softener helps, drawing the print into the panel lines so that it adheres even over raised panels.
It assumes a modeler who already has a 1:48 Eurofighter under way and is looking for a particular documented appearance for it instead of a run-of-the-mill gray finish. In the extent of its print this sheet is among the richest within the series that has been made for this scale.
