The Eduard 1:48 Avia B-534 III. serie masking set is intended for painting a model of the Czechoslovak Avia B-534 biplane of the third series in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Avia B-534 fighter biplane in the third series, 1:48 scale. It is an aid for painting, not a part of the model. The tie to a particular series is no accident: the individual series of the B-534 differed in the configuration of the cockpit, so a mask for the fourth series would not fit the third.
A biplane has its glazing divided into small panes and around it run plenty of obstacles that are awkward to reach: struts, braces and bracing wires. Cutting tape by hand in such a space tends to be inaccurate, because the knife has nowhere to retreat to. A shaped mask is laid down in one go and the edge stays straight even where a blade would slip.
Mask only on a fully dried surface; on biplanes the painting is often done in sections and a mask will pull an undried coat off. Run the airbrush perpendicular to the surface and away from the edge of the mask, not against it, otherwise the air pressure will find its way under the edge. If you build the model with the canopy slid back, allow for the inner side of the frame staying visible and needing to be painted in by hand. Before removing the mask, check that no fibers or dust are left on the model. At the struts it pays to paint before the two wings are glued together; neither a brush nor a nozzle reaches a finished cellule well.
The set serves for painting a model. The kit itself and paints are not part of it.
