Masks that create the impression of deflected ailerons and control surfaces on a model of the B-26B Marauder bomber in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of self-adhesive stencils for a forty-eighth scale model of the American B-26B Marauder medium bomber. Spraying along the defined outlines creates shading on the ailerons and control surfaces that, looking at the finished machine, comes across as if the surfaces were deflected.
The Marauder staked everything on speed from the start. Short wings with a small lifting area and a pair of massive Pratt and Whitney radial engines gave it excellent performance, but also high landing speeds that fresh pilots wrestled with. Hence its unflattering nicknames from the training bases. Once the crews grew used to the type, the opposite showed: over western Europe the Marauder reached some of the lowest losses per combat sortie of all American bombers. The later production blocks of the B version received a greater span and a taller vertical tail, which tamed the handling noticeably.
Given the size of the airframe, choose an order of work and stick to it. Lay the effect on before the decals, so that the shading does not cover them. Once everything has dried, go over the engraved lines with a wash, which joins the shading to the rest of the surface.
