An extensive detailing set focused on the powerplants of a model of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress in 1:48 scale. It replaces the engine nacelles of the base kit with more accurate castings supplemented by photo-etched parts, so that the radial engines, the cowlings and the exhaust outlet stand out. It is not a model of the aircraft or a kit — it is an aftermarket accessory for a modeler whose otherwise well-built model is spoiled by a coarsely executed engine section. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details, specialized in accessories for aircraft models. The castings are shaped for the Revell and Monogram kits.
The B-29 Superfortress was an American four-engine heavy bomber from the period of the Second World War, technically extraordinarily demanding for its time — a pressurized cabin, remotely controlled defensive armament and large radial engines with turbochargers. The engine nacelles are among the visually most prominent elements of the aircraft: they are large, visible from all sides and on a model in 1:48 scale they make up a substantial part of the impression of the whole build.
First wash the cast parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that residues of release agent are removed — otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc; do not break them off. Work wet when sanding and protect your breathing. The castings and the photo-etched parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and the joints can be corrected with the gel variant, which has a longer setting time. Before building, check dry how the nacelle seats into the wing; with aftermarket parts a small adjustment of the mating surfaces is often needed.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
