About product

1:48 Beaufort Mk. I TFace - double-sided painting masks from Eduard

A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of the Bristol Beaufort Mk. I model in 1:48 scale. The TFace designation means that the sheet holds masks for both sides of the clear parts, the outer one and the inner one. On glazed canopies with a lot of framing that is a fundamental difference: you can spray the frames in the interior color from the inside and in the camouflage shade from the outside, so once the masks come off the glazing looks the way it does on the real aircraft. These are not decals and not parts of the model.

How to use the masks

The masks are die-cut in a carrier film; lift them off with tweezers and stick them straight onto the clear part. Degrease the glazing first and let it dry thoroughly. Lay the segments so that they line up exactly with the engraved framing and press them down around the whole edge with a soft tool. On the glazed nose and the turret it pays to work one area at a time and to check the fit from a distance as you go. Apply the inner masks before you glue the clear part into the fuselage, because after that you cannot reach it. If need be, trim the edge with a fresh blade along the outline of the frame.

Painting and removal tips

The order is logical: mask the inside first, spray the frames in the interior shade, glue the part in and mask it from the outside, then spray the exterior colors together with the whole airframe. Apply thin coats, because a heavy coat leaves a ridge at the edge of the mask that peels off when the mask is lifted. Take the masks off while the paint is freshly dry; raise a corner with tweezers and pull slowly at a sharp angle. Remove any adhesive residue with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol, not with an aggressive thinner.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Beaufort Mk. I in 1:48 scale
  • Those who want the frames sprayed from the inside as well as the outside
  • Builders of aircraft with extensive glazing, where masking by hand takes the longest
  • Modelers working with an airbrush

The set contains the painting masks only. The model, paints and thinner are not included in the package. The masks are cut for a particular kit of that type and scale, so check before buying that it matches the one you have.

FAQ

It is the version with masks for both sides of the glazing. Besides the outer masks you also get the inner ones, so you can spray the frames in the interior color from the inside.

The inner masks and the spraying of the interior shade first, then the clear part is glued into the fuselage and only after that come the outer masks. The other way round you can no longer reach the inner side.

No, a single use is expected. Once removed they no longer stick reliably and do not hold their shape.

The exact content of the sheet is not stated here. The set is primarily intended for masking the glazing.
